Art Papier, MD specializes in contact and occupational dermatitis and has a special interest in acute skin rashes and skin presentations of infectious disease. His research focuses on point of care reference systems for physicians and Internet based medical information for patients. He is particularly interested in the topic of diagnostic errors in medical decision making and decision support systems. Dr. Papier was the PI of a NIAMS/NIH contract to develop a comprehensive dermatology lexicon. This work has transitioned to the American Academy of Dermatology as DermLex. Dr. Papier also is Chief Scientific Officer of Logical Images, the developer of VisualDx and an Internet self-paced course in dermatology education.

Location Comments: The Department of Dermatology at the University of Rochester was established in July of 1981. Eastman Kodak Company endowed the James H. Sterner Chair in Dermatology at the School of Medicine and Dentistry in honor of the founder of its Laboratory of Industrial Medicine and Medical Director from 1951-1968. The Dermatology Residency program began in July 1981 and reached its current size in 2001. The philosophy of the program is that residents and faculty working closely together promote the best possible care of patients with both common and complicated skin diseases, while creating an optimal educational environment. Dermatology is the clinical science which integrates skin biology with the pathophysiological processes common to human diseases. Our faculty understand that Dermatologic care and education is highly dependent on conceptual and visual information, and the organization and integration of that information. Our clinical services and research programs strive to build, expand and integrate Dermatologic knowledge and care for our patients, trainees and community. |
