Robert McCann, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and is Chief of Medicine at Highland Hospital, and acting Division Head of Geriatrics for the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. McCann was the recipient of the Rochester Business Journal Health Care Achievement Award for Innovation in 2009 and an American College of Physicians Laureate award winner in 2005. He has written numerous articles published in national medical journals. Dr. McCann is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Palliative Care and Geriatrics and is a leader in the field of Geriatrics. It is his compassion and respect for the elderly that led him to help develop the "Independent Living for Seniors" program at Rochester General Hospital where he served as Medical Director. This program has received international recognition as an effective method of delivering care to frail elderly persons who wish to avoid institutionalization. He is committed to improving the care of the elderly in our community and works diligently to educate residents, fellows and medical students to be sensitive to their needs. At Highland Hospital Dr. McCann has helped develop an acute care for the elderly unit, outpatient practices in geriatrics, a hip fracture service and educational experiences for medical students and residents in geriatrics.
