Dr. Ostrander grew up in Clifton Springs and graduated from Midlakes High School in 1977. He attended Union College in Schenectady and graduated with a double major in German Literature and Biology. He received his M.D. from Upstate Medical College in Syracuse in 1983. He then completed a 3-year family practice residency at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY. In addition to caring for patients in our communities, Dr. Ostrander has several other professional activities. He is active teaching medical students and lecturing, and holds faculty appointments from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and Penn State Medical College in Hershey, PA. For many years he has been involved with the New York State Academy of Family Physicians, and is presently on the Board of Directors. He sits on the NY Governor's Rural Health Council, which provides advice to the governor and Department of Health. He participates in a number of regional and national work groups of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the area of inherited and inborn conditions. He has special interests in musculoskeletal medicine, integrated care of children and youth with special health care needs, and geriatrics.
