Dr. Burns is originally from central New York. Dr. Burns attended Haverford College, where he received a B.A. with a major in English. He did post Baccalaureate work at Bryn Mawr College. After working as a newspaper reporter and grade school teacher, Dr. Burns spent three years teaching in the Western Pacific Island of Truk Micronesia. He subsequently decided to enroll in medical school, attending the University of Rochester and later pursuing training in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. He returned to the University of Rochester for training in General Surgery. After completion of his residency, Dr. Burns joined Genesee Surgical Associates in 2006. Dr. Burns has a special interest in gastrointestinal surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques.
