Dr. Kristin Skinner earned a B.S. degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Rochester and received her M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University. She completed her training in general surgery and fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She then spent several years on the faculty at the University of Southern California, before going to NYU in 2003 as the Chief of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer. Dr. Skinner is actively involved in clinical and translational research evaluating biologic markers of breast cancer risk, possible molecular diagnostic markers in breast cancer, the application of intraductal approaches to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, and the potential for less invasive forms of treatment for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast. She has received funding from the American Cancer Society, the NIH, the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Dr. Skinner is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of over twenty professional societies including the Association of Academic Surgeons, Society of University Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
