Dr. Sheryl Ehrmentraut attended the University of Rochester, receiving her Bachelors degree in 1983 and her Medical degree in 1987. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon completion of her residency in 1990, Dr Ehrmentraut worked at Public Health service sites in rural Alaska, serving Yupik Eskimo Native Americans for two years. Dr Ehrmentraut then worked as a medical volunteer with international organizations including the International Rescue Committee in Somalia, and the Himalayan Rescue Association in Nepal. Upon her return to the states, she held several Locum tenens positions in western New York. She joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice in 1994. Since joining the staff of HVFP, Dr Ehrmentraut has had three children, including one with significant special health care needs. She has an in-depth awareness and appreciation for children and families affected by special health care needs. Currently, Dr Ehrmentraut holds several volunteer positions. These include parent representative for the NYS Department of Health on the Commissioners Group on Cross-Systems Youth Services; the Community Advisory Board for the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities; and the Transition of Care Committee at Strong Memorial Hospital.
