Dr. Devine serves as the Associate Medical Director at Highland Family Medicine and Senior Instructor in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Devine joined the University of Rochester after completing his residency and fellowship there in 2009. He completed a faculty development fellowship that was based on modeling physicians towards an Idealized Medical Practice. His clinical interests include chronic pain, group visits, and bridging the gaps for underserved and minority populations. He is also interested in global health and was on the global health track during his family medicine residency. Dr. Devine has been recognized for his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the department's mission for excellent patient care. He received the "Highland Family Medicine Provider of the Year in 2009", which is an award that he graciously accepted from the staff and faculty at Highland Family Medicine. Dr. Devine continues to practice osteopathic manipulation technique, and is proud to be the first osteopathic faculty member in the department. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004 and also completed a transitional osteopathic internship in Philadelphia in 2005. Dr. Devine's other special interests are in quality improvement, teaching, and business administration. During residency and fellowship he started to take classes at the Simon Business school in pursuit of his MBA. He plans to return to classes in the future to complete this degree. Through his current work on the HRSA P4 - Preparing the Personal Physician for Practice grant team along with the quality improvement committee he is working on practice submission for Primary Care Medical Home NCQA accreditation. In 2009, Dr. Devine founded and currently chairs the Quality Improvement committee at Highland Family Medicine. Currently the QI committee has designated 21 quality improvements to be implemented throughout the practice. Dr. Devine recognized during residency that the business aspect of medicine is ever more important in today's medical climate and he provides ongoing education to the residents on business related curriculum. Dr. Devine also currently has scholarly interests. He has authored the topic on Tendinopathy in the book "The 5-Minute Clinical Consult" over the last 5 publications. He presented his residency and fellowship project on improving chronic pain treatment and education at the annual meeting of the American Society of Addiction Medicine in New Orleans in April 2009. He also speaks on a local CBS affiliate news show once a month as a sunrise guest discussing current medical topics and affairs. He takes great pride in the fact that he was born at Highland Hospital and grew up attending Wilson high school in the inner city of Rochester. His wife, Anne was also raised in Rochester, and attended East high school, his rival high school. Rest assured, that his marriage has helped provide excellent care to his patients regardless of what high school they attended.
