Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University
American Board of Family Medicine
After nearly a decade of practice as a solo rural physician in upstate New York, I served for four years in Chicago as Senior Editor at JAMA. In addition to my clinical responsibilities at the Family Medicine Center, I serve as a suite leader and evaluator for the residency program's P4 project. I am currently the Medical Director at Isaiah House, a residential hospice. I also have several formal roles in program evaluation at the University. I serve as Director of Assessment at the medical school's Office of Curriculum and Assessment, where, with my staff, I oversee all aspects of assessment of the 4-year curriculum leading to the MD degree. I am also an evaluator for the medical center's NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. In the course of this work, I have developed a special interest in social network analysis and have given workshops about this to national audiences. A typical family physician, I continue to have a hard time deciding among all the various things that interest me! My most exciting new project is that I founded a chamber orchestra based at the University of Rochester Medical Center, which is composed almost entirely of scientists, physicians, and staff.
