Here at Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe, we have been compounding for over 15 years now and all our compounding pharmacists combined have over 55 years of compounding experience, thus why we say, “Our Experience Makes The Difference”! We pride ourselves on our ability to create medications that are customized to the individual patient at the instruction of your physician. Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounded medications are “made from scratch” - individual ingredients are mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required by the patient. This method allows the compounding pharmacist to work with the patient and the prescriber to customize a medication to meet the patient’s specific needs. At one time, nearly all prescriptions were compounded. Over time, the pharmacist’s role in compounding changed as medicines were mass produced by manufacturers. This caused many mass-produced medications to not mee the needs of all patients any longer. Compounding now has experienced a resurgence as modern technology and innovative techniques and research have allowed more pharmacists to customize medications to meet specific patient needs to an even far greater extent than early compounding had ever done. Our lead compounding pharmacist, Julie English, has over 15 years experienced and has attended specialized training to be able to keep up with today’s more emerging solutions.
