A.C.T for the Children-Rochester (Assisting Children through Transition) A.C.T. is an education program that provides parents with information and strategies to help their children through the often difficult family changes caused by a divorce or separation. The classes teach parents the importance of caring for themselves, how to effectively parent, and ways to reduce the conflict with their former spouse or partner. Classes are taught in two, three and one-half hour, sessions offered one week apart. Two mental health professionals serve as instructors for both sessions. The program is sponsored by the Seventh Judicial District of New York State. |
Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims ASADV stands for Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims, Inc. Our mission is to provide support to the Deaf community and to Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing individuals, families, and children who are or have been victims/survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual abuse. A safe environment of empowering, advocacy, and educational/training services will be offered to them. We believe it is empowering for them to see people like themselves in running the organization. The majority of our officers are women and Deaf. In this way, we act as role models for not only victims but also for the Deaf community.All staff, advocates and volunteers are fluent in American Sign Language. |
ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ) The Upstate New York Chapter was founded to serve the needs of those living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and their caregivers. The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. ALSA covers all the bases-research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy-in providing help and hope to those facing the disease.The ALS Association (National Office and the Upstate New York Chapter) operates under a shared mission: to help people living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and to leave no stone unturned in search for the cure. We work together to accomplish our mission. The Upstate New York Chapter focuses primarily on helping local patients and families live with ALS while the National Office focuses primarily on research and advocacy. |
Alzheimer's Association (Rochester Chapter) The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. We provide services to those affected by Alzheimer's; advocate for policy change and research funding; and advance research toward prevention, brain health, treatment and cure. The Rochester Chapter provides comprehensive support and educational services to those living with Alzheimer's throughout the nine-county Finger Lakes region which includes Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Yates, Wayne, Seneca, Schuyler, Steuben and Chemung counties. The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. American Cancer Society B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge and Hospitality House Hope Lodge and Hospitality House provides free lodging to cancer patients and caregivers and low-cost lodging to transplant patients and their families receiving lifesaving treatment at hospitals in the Rochester area. More than a place to stay, Hope Lodge and Hospitality House is a "home away from home" offering a comfortable and supportive environment for encouragement and healing. |
American Diabetes Association (Rochester, New York ADA) New Yorkers are increasingly feeling the effects of diabetes as thousands of people suffer from the disease, and many others may have diabetes and not know it! It is estimated that one out of every three children born after 2000 in the United States will be directly affected by diabetes. That is why the American Diabetes Association's Rochester office is so committed to educating the public about how to stop diabetes and support those living with the disease. Our staff are available Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. |
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (Western NY Chapter) The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide. The WNY Chapter covers the following counties: Chautauqua, Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus, Orleans, Wyoming, Genesee, Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Allegany, Steuben, Tompkins, Yates, Seneca, Chemung, Livingston, Schuyler and Tioga. Our Chapter seeks to prevent the loss of life by suicide through education, research, and outreach. Sadly, one in every 25 lives lost to suicide in this country is a resident of New York State. American Red Cross Biomedical Services (New York-Penn Region) Welcome to the New York-Penn Region. We are one of the three largest regions in the American Red Cross Biomedical Services system, providing blood products to approximately 101 hospitals throughout upstate New York. Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI), an affiliate of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, is dedicated to carrying out its mission of preparing and empowering people who are blind or visually impaired to be self-sufficient and contribute to their families and communities. ABVI provides world-class vision rehabilitation services and runs a wide range of businesses in support of our mission. We currently employ over 500 people, one-fifth of whom are blind or visually impaired. We're projected to double our total number of employees and the number of employees who are blind or visually impaired by 2015! |
AutismUp (Help for today. Hope for tomorrow.) AutismUp is the leading non-for-profit (501c3) autism organization in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Founded in 2004, by a small group of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), our mission is to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families, by expanding and enhancing opportunities to improve quality of life. AutismUp has grown to include over 1000 family and professional members. The efforts of AutismUp have reached thousands in the Upstate New York area to raise awareness of the autism epidemic and to strengthen the abilities and increase the success of individuals with ASD. Better Days Ahead Family Support Group Better Days Ahead Family Support Network is a service of the Mental Health Association. Staffed by parents who themselves have had children with emotional and behavioral; challenges they provide support to families raising children with similar problems. Though support groups, one-to-one mentoring and educational groups and programs, Better Days Ahead helps parents to identify the strengths within their own families and to develop the skills necessary to raise healthy independent children. BDA also collaborates with service providers and funders to assure that services are responsive to the needs of families. |
Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester's mission is to provide support to those touched by a diagnosis of breast cancer, to make access to information and care a priority through education and advocacy, and to empower women and men to participate fully in decisions relating to breast cancer. Our many programs and services are offered at no cost. Starting with our one-on-one session for the newly diagnosed, we provide networking opportunities for them, their friends or family members throughout the breast cancer journey and beyond. We offer formal and informal networking/support groups, book and writing clubs, peer support and mentoring, an up to date resource center and lending library, monthly seminars on a variety of topics related to living with cancer; a healing arts initiative focusing on Yoga, Tai Chi, Nia, and Qi Gong. We also publish quarterly newsletter "Voices of the Ribbon" available by subscription at no cost and offered in many physician offices and community settings. |
Camp Abilities at the College at Brockport Camp Abilities Brockport is a one-week, developmental sports camp for children who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind. The camp is set up to provide a 1:1 instructional situation for each child. Held on the campus of The College at Brockport, State University of New York, Camp Abilities Brockport serves children between the ages of 9 and 19. They vary in socioeconomic status, ethnic background and level of skills and abilities. Since our first year, we have served more than 50 children with visual impairments each year. |
Camp Good Days and Special Times Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. All of the programs and services provided by Camp Good Days are offered free of charge for the participants, which is only possible through the generosity of so many individuals and organizations and the success of our many special fundraising events. |
Cancer Services Program of Monroe County Have No Health Insurance, NO worries. The Cancer Servies Program of Monroe County (CSP-MC) pays for mammograms, pap test, colorectal screeinings and diagnostic serves for me (age 50 and older) and women (age 40 and older) without health insurance. The CSP-MC Case Manager will help clients apply for Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program coverage. In addition, the CSP-MC offers coverage for the Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine (HPV) for women ages 19 through 26. Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc., Rochester Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc., (CARD) is among the world's largest and most experienced organizations using applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the treatment of autism, Asperger's syndrome, PDD-NOS, and other related disorders. Teaching vital skills: language and communication, social, play, theory of mind, executive functioning, overall adaptive behavior, self-help and motor skills as well as reduce/eliminate maladaptive behaviors. CARD is an approved early intervention provider. |
Committee to Aid Research to End Schizophrenia (CARES) Located in Rochester, New York, CARES was founded in 1986 by Mrs. Barbara Swigert to raise money to support schizophrenia research. As a parent of a daughter with schizophrenia, Mrs. Swigert became aware of the limitations of current treatment and rehabilitation strategies to address this illness, and she became determined to make a difference. Her dream is for science to some day find a cure for schizophrenia and, until that day comes, to find ways to improve treatments and promote greater public understanding and acceptance of those who suffer from this illness. |
Community Place of Greater Rochester The Community Place of Greater Rochester (CPGR) maintains the traditions of being a neighborhood-based, trusted source for strengthening community by supporting individuals and families. A variety of programs connect people with resources and tools to benefit themselves and their neighborhoods. Program areas include Aging Services, Disability Services, Early Childhood, Family Services and Youth Development and are offered at three sites. Bi-lingual staff is available. |
Compassionate Friends (Rochester Chapter) The Compassionate Friends is a nonprofit, self-help support organization for families who have experienced the death of a child, grandchild or sibling of any age from any cause. The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive. There is no religious affiliation or membership requirements. |
CompassionNet - Caring for Children and Families A Holistic Approach to the Family's Quality of Life. Reaching beyond the traditional medical model of care, CompassionNet focuses on improving services and support for children with life-threatening illnesses. This unique program assists seriously ill children to live as normally as possible, concentrating on alleviating their suffering and keeping them at home during the course of their disease. Case managers also provide families/guardians of these children access to resources that sustain effective coping and positive family dynamics. CompassionNet case managers address a family's specific concerns and needs in the same way medical teams treat a child's particular disease/condition. The program partners with community-based organizations to identify needs that can be met in the home/community and to arrange or purchase services, many provided by volunteers or donated. |
Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester The Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to caring for children in times of family crisis. Types of crises range from simple to catastrophic and are not limited to these examples: Medical Emergencies, Unexpected Death, Unexpected Illness, Accidents, Mental Health Incidents, etc. The Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester provides a unique service for Rochester, New York. There are many excellent organizations in Rochester that provide assistance to families in need, but none like the Crisis Nursery. |
Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (Rochester/Southern Tier Chapter) Our Mission: To cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. CCFA sponsors basic and clinical research of the highest quality. The foundation also offers a wide range of educational programs for patients and health-care professionals, and provides supportive services to help people cope with these chronic intestinal diseases. |

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Rochester Chapter) The Rochester Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) supports 200 CF patients and their families in the 9 surrounding counties of Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Genesee, Steuben, Livingston, Yates, Wyoming and Chemung. Our mission is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. |
Daystar for Medically Fragile Children Daystar for Medically Fragile Children is the community's only pediatric day-respite program offering comprehensive blend of developmental and early educational programing and pediatric nursing services specifically designed for families with children under the age of five who are coping with complex medical conditions and serious developmental disabilities. Daystar operates year-round, Monday through Friday, helping provide stability and security for families struggling to resume employment and/or help manage their weekly responsibilities by knowing their child is in a safe, loving environment where they will be encouraged and supervised by an entire team of trained professionals. Daystar welcomes up to 40 children daily with special medical and developmental needs across three dedicated classrooms. |
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) of Rochester & Canandaigua The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the leading national, patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses. The organization seeks to create an environment of understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing effective, up-to-date, scientifically-based tools and information. DBSA supports research to promote effective, tolerable treatment and an eventual cure; and works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably. Easter Seals (Western New York Region) Easter Seals New York provides exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. The Easter Seals Diagnostic & Treatment Center (DTC) is an innovative and one of a kind facility that serves individuals and families living with special needs in New York's Western Region. The Center offers a wide variety of clinical/medical services for adults and children with developmental and physical disabilities. Our fully licensed, credentialed professionals work as an interdisciplinary team to determine client diagnosis and specifically recommend certain kinds of treatment. |
Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Western New York The Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Western New York (EDRCWNY) is one of three centers supported by the New York State Department of Health. The centers form an integrated network of specialists that provides a full range of comprehensive services for individuals with eating disorders and their families. Each center arranges case management services, sponsors programs to increase awareness, early identification and referral, as well as participates in collaborative research. Eating Disorder Specialists throughout the EDRCWNY understand the biological, psychological, and socio-cultural risk factors that create and perpetuate eating disorders. |
Edelman-Gardner Cancer Research Foundation The Sally Edelman-Harry Gardner Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1984 with an established goal to raise a million dollars for Cancer Research. Based in Hilton, NY the foundation funds research projects in the Rochester area through the University of Rochester's James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. Lessons on the power of a single dollar can be learned from leaders of the Sally Edelman-Harry Gardner Cancer Research Foundation. The group has led nearly 36 years of grassroots fund-raising to support research at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. "One of the things we're proud of is how our grants have been multiplied over and over to fund research for cancer cures," says George Edelman Jr., president of the Hilton-based foundation. |
Embrace Your Sisters (emergency financial support for people with breast cancer) Embrace Your Sisters (EYS) fills a unique niche in breast cancer services by providing short-term emergency financial assistance to residents of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne & Yates counties in New York. Many people diagnosed with breast cancer are unable to work during their illness or treatment, adding a huge financial toll to an already difficult struggle. Assistance from EYS eases the financial difficulties of unpaid bills and helps friends focus on their health and families. |
Embracing Options (Choices for Life) Embracing Options is a community outreach of His Branches, Inc. whose mission is to eliminate the need for abortion by providing support for persons in past and present pregnancies, sharing the Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, and promoting a culture of life through education about the sanctity of human life, abstinence, and a moral approach to sexuality. |
Face 2 Face (Putting a face on miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss in the Rochester NY area) The mission of Face 2 Face is to provide emotional support and resources to those who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss and to raise awareness about pregnancy/infant loss throughout the Greater Rochester Area. Face 2 Face was created out of a necessity in the Rochester Area to put a face to miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss. The co-leaders, JennRose Stremich, Stephanie Brown and Melissa Ippolito met in December, 2011 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery where their children, Ethan, Hayden and Ryan, are buried next to each other. From this chance meeting, a need was fulfilled; the need to be supported and to have someone understand what their losses felt like. |
FACTS (Food Allergies: Coping, Teaching, Supporting) FACTS is a food allergy support group founded in March of 2003 by two local mothers of food-allergic children. Through FACTS, parents and children have an opportunity to network with other families facing similar challenges and find local and national resources to make the job of parenting a child with food allergies a bit less overwhelming. The group provides members a place to give and receive encouragement, learn coping strategies, and find pertinent food allergy information through guest speakers and other informative sessions. Part of our core mission is to educate our community (i.e. schools, day cares, restaurants, summer camps) about the serious nature of dealing with individuals with food allergies. To that end, we offer support to individuals, families, and groups (i.e. presentations). FACTS holds meetings every other month and sponsors a number of food-free celebrations throughout the year. Mission: We are dedicated to providing resources, support and encouragement to families coping with food allergies as well as raising awareness and educating the community regarding the unique needs of these families. |
Families in Recovery - Healing for Children of Alcoholics The mission of Families in Recovery is create opportunities for healing for children and other family members affected by alcoholism and addiction. Families in Recovery is the result of a singular idea: children of alcoholics can learn to heal. It is the belief of Families in Recovery that through education, support and time, children of alcoholics can recover. To that end, we offer education to children still in alcoholic homes, to adult children of alcoholics, and to those who provide the support network for children of alcoholics. |
Fibromyalgia Association of Rochester New York FARNY is dedicated to meeting the needs of individuals diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by supporting, educating and informing patients, families, professionals, and the public concerning the nature of this illness and the resources available for self-help. Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) is a not-for-profit, hospital based organ procurement program that facilitates the donation and transplantation of organs and tissue in New York state's Finger Lakes, Central and Upstate regions. FLDRN offers the following services: Bereavement and Counseling Services. FLDRN coordinators offer the option of donation to families and support them in their decision. |
Finger Lakes Parent Network Inc. Finger Lakes Parent Network Inc. offers family support services in the nine counties of Wayne, Ontario, Seneca, Yates, Schuyler, Steuben, Chemung, Tioga and Allegany. Collaboration between families and service providers is integral to the program. The program began in July 1990 as the Finger Lakes Family Support Project with a grant from the NYS Office of Mental Health and was sponsored by the Steuben County Department of Community Services with the support of Pathways Inc. and the Steuben Church People Against Poverty (SCAP). The project was directed by a professional staff member of Elmira Psychiatric Center (EPC). Caregiver support groups were facilitated by a Family Consultant and EPC support staff; they also offered on-site childcare opportunities in Ontario, Wayne, Steuben and Chemung. |
Flower City Down Syndrome Network, Inc. (FCDSN) The Flower City Down Syndrome Network, Inc. (FCDSN) was begun in 1991 by a group of local families. Laura Khederian and Peggy Schoenfelder were two parents looking for a network of support for their children with Down syndrome. Finding that there were no groups in the Rochester area, they sent out a call for help from other support organizations and individuals and began their own network. Harmony Place: Adolescent Eating Disorders Residential Treatment Program Harmony Place is an adolescent eating disorders residential treatment program located in Rochester, New York. We opened in October 2009 to provide an intensive level of care to help girls and boys who are struggling with chronic, severe eating disorders. We offer the the only free-standing residential program in New York State and fill a vital place in the continuum of care for adolescents diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Harmony Place is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health and we are a founding member of the New York State Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders. In February of 2006, the Hickok Center for Brain Injury was approved by the Department of Health to provide Independent Living Skills Training (ILST). Ibero-American Action League Developmental Disabilities Division The Ibero-American Action League has been providing services to the community since 1968. Over the years, we have progressed into an agency that has 21 sites and employs 270 diverse employees. We are particularly proud of the different programs that we offer and how every day we help change lives and ensure self sufficiency for those that we serve. The Developmental Disabilities Division provides alternative residential housing and advocacy services for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Moonshadow's Spirit (The Jennifer Mathiason Fund) Moonshadow's Spirit honors the memory of Jennifer Mathiason, an inspirational force to others throughout her life. In 2005, Jenn recovered from the eating disorder she had battled for ten years. She made a promise then to help others like her. She provided support and advice to women online under the screen name "Moonshadow." Through her conversations, she discovered that there were many who sought recovery, but could not afford the cost of good care. That is why we've created Moonshadow's Spirit as her legacy. Our goal is to provide need-based financial assistance to individuals with an eating disorder diagnosis who are seeking treatment at residential facilities (hospitals or privately owned) or intensive partial hospitalization program facilities in the United States. New Fibromyalgia Support Group The New Fibromyalgia Support Group was started in May of 2010 by Jackie Witkowski, who is also the support group facilitator. The support group was started out of the need for people with fibromyalgia to connect and interact with each other. In addition to offering social support, it was found that continuing education was also needed. Friendship, support and education were the overall basis for the support group. The focus on the group is not always on fibromyalgia itself, but rather on learning to live with the disorder. Sometimes visiting speakers may have a unique or laid back approach instead of a clinical program. However, all the programs offer something different for everybody. Pet Assisted Therapy of Lollypop Farm The Pet Assisted Therapy (PAT) program of Lollypop Farm has been serving members of our community in a unique and meaningful way for over 20 years. Our volunteers and their therapy animals provide comfort, motivation, inspiration, compassion, affection, and joy to people of all ages and backgrounds. We are able to serve the Rochester community thanks to the dedication of about 60 volunteers and their registered therapy animals. The Advocacy Center (Putting People First) The Advocacy Center provides consumer-driven services to support people with disabilities and their families in achieving their goals. Through information-sharing, individual advocacy support, independent service coordination and educational workshops, we advance people's knowledge of resources and help them to build life-long advocacy skills. Our leadership development programs prepare individuals to help others as volunteer lay advocates, to influence policy, and to promote understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities. |
The Center for Youth Counseling Services The Center for Youth is the best organization to turn to for young people seeking to deal with, explore, or understand issues of importance to them - from their perspective, and on their terms. Started by kids, for kids, all Center services - from counseling, to shelter, to education, to referrals - are rooted in, and delivered with the knowledge that youth want to, and can, take responsibility for their life choices. Counseling Services are Free, Confidential and based on the Voluntary Participation of the youth seeking help. Solutions are planned in partnership with youth and may include Individual and/or Family Counseling. A 24-Hour Crisis Phone Line provides immediate response, information and refferals. |

Threshold Center at Community Place Threshold for Alternative Youth Services, Inc. (Threshold) has uniquely met the needs of 12-25 year olds in Rochester for thirty-five years. Through one organization and at one site, young adults access primary health care, family planning services, counseling, substance abuse prevention, and work force development services. Services are provided in a confidential, culturally sensitive manner. With a staff of 22 and an annual operating budget of $1.9 million, Threshold meets important needs in the community. |
Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes The Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater Rochester and the Finger lakes chapter is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the community with a clearer understanding of individuals with Tourette Syndrome (TS). We offer resources and referrals to help people and their families cope with the problems that occur with TS. We also raise public awareness and counter media stereotypes about TS. |
Transplant Awareness Organization of Greater Rochester TAO is an association of individuals that have undergone transplant surgery. TAO members provide support for other transplant recipients, candidates and their families. By sharing their personal experiences, these former patients complement the counseling provided by physicians, social workers and other health care professionals by offering special understanding that comes only from experiencing a transplant firsthand. In addition to offering support, TAO members also participate in special events throughout the year to promote organ donor awareness. TAO of Greater Rochester is a non-profit organization working to improve the quality of life of transplant candidates, recipients and their families. |
True Child Within (Providing Support and Advocacy for Pediatric Bipolar Disorder) True Child Within held it's first meeting in October, 2002 as a support group for parents with bipolar children. Four months later in March of 2003, we became a local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), a national organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with mood disorders. The group's name at that time, and for the next five years, was DBSA Parents with Bipolar Children, Rochester NY. Under our affiliation with DBSA, we became a corporation and received status as a 501 (c3) organization. |

Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, Inc . The Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, Inc. (VRC) is a private, non-profit intimate partner/domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and child abuse services agency. The VRC provides a 24/7 bilingual (Spanish/English) toll-free, crisis hotline at 1-866-343-8808 or 1-800-456-1172, and the only intimate partner/domestic violence crisis shelter for counties of Wayne, Ontario, Seneca and Yates. We provide short-term counseling, personal, criminal justice, medical and educational advocacy, information and referrals, support groups, Girls Groups (in area schools), and prevention education.
