UNYFEAT to Host Fourth Annual Autism Awareness Fundraiser
Rochester, NY: Upstate New York Families for Effective Autism Treatment (UNYFEAT) is hosting a Fourth Annual Autism Awareness Fundraising Event in conjunction with National Autism Awareness Month. Exploration Autism 2010 ~ The Faces of Autism will be held on Friday, April 30th, 2010 from 6:30 to 10:00 PM at George Eastman House, 900 East Avenue, Rochester, NY. Meet the faces of families and children affected with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in photo, video and film while exploring the house, galleries and grounds. The evening will include food and wine tastings, music, auctions, raffles, tours, photography, framework created by individuals with ASD, a film in the Dryden Theatre and opportunities to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the unique programs and services provided by UNYFEAT.
Statistics now point to one in 94 children, or one child every 20 minutes, being diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more prevalent than pediatric cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. The exact numbers of those diagnosed are uncalculated. However, UNYFEAT is determined to reach each and every local individual who is living with Autism, to ensure that those affected by ASD are receiving the support and education they need to thrive.
Last year's event was attended by nearly 500 guests and funds raised allowed UNYFEAT to expand, enhance, implement and sponsor many programs, including: Social Skill Education at Camp Arrowhead; Recreation Programs; Life Skill Education; "Lose-The-Training-Wheels" bicycle riding program; Monthly Speaker Series; Guest Lecture by Dr. Temple Grandin; "SCERTS Model Training for Educators and Parents"; and "Autism and Risk and Safety Management Training for First Responders." UNYFEAT hopes to double fundraising efforts in 2010 in order to continue to provide outreach to a greater number of individuals with ASD and those that support them in the Upstate area. Plans are underway to expand camp programs at the YMCA and to provide a two-day Social Skill Education Conference for parents and professionals.
Tickets purchased in advance are $65. Tickets purchased after April 1st are $75, $100 at the door, and include museum entrance, appetizers, station dinner, dessert, wine tasting and Dryden Theatre seating. Ticket purchases can be made on-line at www.unyfeat.org or by calling (585) 248-9011 prior to the event.
