Young adult cancer survivors can learn about recent research on the lasting effects of cancer care during a support group meeting Thursday, Jan. 14, at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. The Young Adult Survivor Connection meets from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Patient and Family Resource Center.

Louis "Sandy" Constine, M.D., professor of Radiation Oncology and Pediatrics, will lead the discussion and will answer questions about any form of cancer. He is vice chair of Radiation Oncology and an expert in the care and research of Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, as well as the lasting effects of therapeutic radiation. He is a member of the Rubin Center for Cancer Survivorship.

He is the chair of the Hodgkin's disease group of the Lymphoma Committee in the Southwest Oncology Group and participates on numerous national and international committees relating to the creation of guidelines for the screening of chronic side effects of cancer therapy.

The Young Adult Survivor Connection is for cancer survivors ages 18-39, and their family and friends, to network and improve their quality of life. Upcoming topics include navigating disability paperwork and massage and alternative therapies.

The group is facilitated by Rita Goodman, L.M.S.W., and Jennifer Masseth, P.A. For more information, call Goodman at (585) 275-4631.
